Title: MIDDLE ENGLISH LITERATURE
Section: 01
Semester: Fall - 2011
Credits: 3
Description:
The Middle Ages is a fascinating time in history and in literature! We will concentrate on the "theme of Love" in medieval English literature. We will study medieval philosophical and literary-critical ideas essential to understand the literature. We will also read an exiciting contemporary novel, Umberto Eco's _Name of the Rose_, which will serve as an introduction to the theme of "medievalism" -- the use of the Middle Ages to examine problems of the contemporary world -- and of social and economic history.
