Description:
Science fiction is a “what if—?” genre, a literature of ideas most broadly defined as “the impact of technology on society.” This course is a survey of twentieth-century science fiction through short stories and a few novels. The tentative list of authors spans Heinlein, Asimov, Bradbury, Clarke, Gibson, Le Guin, Aldiss, Ballard, Tiptree, and others. Requirements: two extremely short papers, a midterm, and a final exam.
