Description:
Postwar British fiction represents the ever-shrinking British empire after WW II: its discontents and its dreams, as well as connections to its illustrious past as the country slid into a welfare state. The tentative list of authors we’ll be reading include Iris Murdoch, Kingsley and Martin Amis, Penelope Lively, Kazuguro Ishiro, Fay Weldon, and Anita Brookner. Requirements include a midterm, an essay, and a final exam.
