The American Short Story
Note: the time is 6 PM to 9:10 PM, post-session

Course Objective: To introduce you to the themes, styles, and originality of the American short story. We will be looking at authors from the early nineteenth century to the present, at
texts considered canonical and non-canonical, to come up with a statement about the \\\\\\\"Americanness\\\\\\\" of these stories. We will explore how the history of America enters the texts of the short story (e.g. women\\\\\\\'s rights movements, Industrial Revolution, class tensions, Civil War, race issues, immigration).
