Description:
This course is an introduction to 20th century Latin American poetry (translated into English). The list of readings has not yet been finalized, but poets might include Pablo Neruda (Chile), Cesar Vallejo (Peru), Adelia Prado (Brazil), Ruben Dario (Nicaragua), and Jorge Luis Borges (Argentina). Students will develop their abilities to analyze poetry, to think carefully about the text as representation, to appreciate the subtleties of poetic language and devices, and to cultivate their sophistication as readers.
