Description:
In this course we will read a selection of essays, autobiographies, short stories, and novels by women writers of the twentieth century including Octavia Butler, Joan Didion, Maxine Hong Kingston, Jamaica Kinkaid, Gertrude Stein, and Virginia Woolf. We’ll focus our reading on issues related to gender, identity, language, and the work of the writer. Students will write a series of short papers as well as a longer essay at the end of the session.
