Description:
This course will approach Asian American literature and film through the analytic lenses of gender and sexuality. We will consider the intersections and race, gender, and sexuality in the texts we examine. Topics we will address include queer studies, history and memory of empire, U.S. wars in Asia, racialized spaces of ethnic enclaves and suburbia, diaspora and transnational social constructs, and intergenerational issues. Authors studied may include Le Thi Diem Thuy, Jessica Hagedorn, Maxine Hong Kingston, Suki Kim, Andrew Pham, and Monique Truong, among others.
