Description:
Women Poets will look at poets from Sappho tthrough the American poets Wheatley and Bradstreet, the English poets Browning, Rossetti and Bronte, the modern American poets H.D., Moore and Bishop to the confessionals Plath and Sexton and the African-American poets poets Brooks, Dove, Clifton and Tretheway. We will examine how women poets themes evolved from love, marriage, children to political concerns, war, racial and gender discrimination. The economic realities of financial support and the literary marketplace will be considered. Finally, we consider the question of whether there is a woman\'s voice.
