Name: ENWR - 212
Title: INTRODUCTION TO POETRY WRITING
Section: 01
Semester: Spring - 2012
Credits: 3
Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to the craft of writing poetry. We will practice both traditional formalist and free verse; and we will learn the basics of prosody, imagery, diction, metaphoric language, voice, persona, tonal shift, line and stanza break, sound and rhythm. We will acquire some sense of the history of poetry and its major genres. Much of our course, however, will be structured as a writing workshop, with an emphasis on learning to bring our poetry from initial ideas through several drafts into more finished works. The semester will culminate in a final portfolio of original poems. Attendance, participation, and conscientious effort are expected of all.
