Title: ART OF DRAMA

Section: 01

Semester: Spring - 2012

Credits: 3

Description:
This course explores the major forms, features, epochs, and writers of world drama from ancient times to the present. Plays are performances of cultural issues, lively cultural artifacts that work, and last, by popular consensus. By looking at a wide variety of such performances through different historical, geographical, ethnic, and other theoretical perspectives, students will gain a broad appreciation for world drama and a deep understanding of the many ways in which it expresses the tragedy and comedy of the human condition. Students can expect to write two papers (5 and 10 pp, respectively) and take a midterm and final exam. Class participation is expected and encouraged.
