Description:
In this course we will read fiction (short stories and novels), as well as non-fiction prose (memoirs, personal and political essays, and some theoretical texts) by women writers from around the world, focusing on contemporary writings (20th and 21st century). We will examine if there are commonalities of concerns, ideas, themes, writing styles etc in these works by writers from around the globe, something that marks this work out as "women's writing" or not

We will complement some of our readings with film viewing and discussion, and students will be expected to keep a journal, take a midterm and final exam, and hand in a short critical paper at the end of term.
