Course details
Name: ENWR - 250
Title: ST: MEMOIR WRITING
Section: 01
Semester: Fall - 2012
Credits: 3
Description:
This course will help students mine experiences from their own lives and transform them into stories that matter to others. Unlike autobiography, which is the story "of a life," a memoir is the story "from a life."* It focuses on a thematic element from the writer's life in order to illuminate some universal theme. This course will focus on the development of writing voice and theme as well as how memoirists use the techniques of poetry and fiction to tell their stories. Students will read contemporary memoir excerpts as well as one book-length memoir in order to learn the form and will complete weekly writing assignments that will lead to a longer, self contained memoir piece. The course is lecture and workshop; students should be ready to present their work and respond to other students' work. For more information contact Dr. Giura at giuram@mail.montclair.edu
