Description:
This course is a hands-on workshop, devoted mainly to writing short stories. It provides a grounding in the elements of plot, character, dialogue, tone, setting, theme, and so on. Students are expected to write at least three short pieces and two stories during the semester. In addition, a final exam will ask the students for written criticism of each other's material. The readings will be mainly student work along with stories from an anthology. Prerequisites: ENWR 213 (or ENWR 200 adjusted to 213 credit) and departmental approval. TO REQUEST THIS COURSE, SIGN UP ON THE WAITING LIST IN THE ENGLISH OFFICE, DICKSON 468. Course permission is usually granted 1-2 weeks after registration period begins.
