Title: ST: WRITING ABOUT SCIENTIFIC ISSUES FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC
Section: 02
Semester: Spring - 2013
Credits: 3
Description:
A huge general audience exists in the US for articles and books about many crucial scientific issues; from disease research to
space travel, undersea life to new technology, studies of the air we breathe to the chemicals we put in food and cosmetics. Magazine and book editors are looking for writers about these
and other scientific subjects.
This seminar style course is taught by a professional writer of both books and articles, and is designed for science students who wish to gain skills at communicating to the general
public, or for Journalism or English students. Students will choose their own areas of interest and perhaps try to get work published! We will critique each other’s work, study writing that
deals with science for a general audience, and learn how to get published in the real commercial world.
