Title: INTRODUCTION TO DRAMA WRITING
Section: 01
Semester: Fall - 2013
Credits: 3
Description:
The goal of this course is to introduce you to the craft of writing for the stage and the theatrical conventions that take the play from page to stage. You will become familiar with the Aristotelian elements of the drama (plot, character, thought, diction, song, and spectacle) and explore how these elements manifest in contemporary plays. You will analyze works from contemporary playwrights and develop scenes and short plays on your own. A considerable amount of class time will focus on cold readings of work by class members, so be prepared to read aloud when asked. The culmination of the semester’s work will be a reading “festival” of scenes from class.
