Title: STYLE AND EDITING

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2013

Credits: 3

Description:
This course is dedicated to intensive, advanced work on academic, professional, and public writing. Students will develop their skills as writers through drafting and revision, peer review, and exposure to research on language practices and the writing process. Students will have the opportunity to analyze their strengths and weaknesses as writers, to develop strategies for editing and polishing, and to enhance their ability to analyze and construct arguments. The course will also provide sustained attention to achieving clarity of prose, with particular emphasis on editing skills, grammar, syntax, and mechanics. In addition to working on grammar and sentence-level issues, we will explore questions of style: what style is, how grammar and style may be related, and how specific writing situations may call for particular styles. This is a hybrid course, meeting in person on Tuesdays and online during the week.
