In this class we will discuss American fiction of the first half of the 20th century, reading such writers as Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Faulkner, Gertrude Stein, Dorothy Parker, Jean Toomer and others. We will consider the degree to which these writers were influenced by World War I, the Jazz Age and the "Lost Generation," the Harlem Renaissance and the Great Depression.
