Description:
In this ON-LINE ONLY course, students will read nineteenth and twentieth-century short stories that explore the limits of race and gender and the strategies writers and characters use to evade them. Readings will include short stories by Henry James, Charlotte Gilman Perkins, Alice Munro, William Faulkner, and Jamaica Kincaid. In addition to completing all assigned readings and engaging in a written on-line discussion, students will write a response essay and a longer analytical essay.
