We'll read and discuss some of the greatest classics of British literature from the Old English to the end of the Republic. Representative works and authors include: Beowulf, Old English elegies, Middle English lyrics, Chaucer, the Gawain poet, /Everyman/, /The Second Shepherd's Play/, Thomas More's /Utopia/, Wyatt, Surrey, Christopher Marlowe, /Doctor Faustus/, Shakespeare's plays and sonnets, Edmund Spenser, Queen Elizabeth I, the Metaphysical poets, the Cavalier poets, John Milton.
