The craft of news reporting with emphasis on the hands-on basics such as interviewing, writing to deadline, the 5Ws, the classic inverted pyramid organization of a story, meticulous accuracy, using the "clips" in researching, wire service writing style, avoiding libel and invasion of privacy, and others. This is a highly participatory course with steady writing throughout the semester. There is a textbook for guidance, but the emphasis is on actually practicing the craft.
