Description:
In this course we will explore a selection of fiction writing from the late 20th century and early 21st century. We will consider a variety of themes, such as Cold War conformity and the individual, immigration, and transgressions of norms. Our readings will include a range of genres and authors and will particular emphasize issues of race, gender, class, and sexuality. Authors we study may include Dorothy Allison, Junot Díaz, Philip K. Dick, Percival Everett, Cristina García, and Ruth Ozeki, among others.
