Students will study non-English works from outside the American and British traditions, ranging from Hellenic Athens down to the 20th century. Our exploration of these texts will focus on the manner in which these writers (and works) simultaneously express conformity and dissent with the traditions of the cultures and historical moments that they emerge from.
