Name: ENGL - 206

Title: WORLD LIT: COMING OF AGE THEME

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2015

Credits: 3

Description:
In this course, the student closely studies prominent texts of Nobel Prize winners in literature from Africa, Latin America, India, Japan, China and Europe. Special emphasis is given to non-Western texts that reveal the struggles of countries in these areas to come of age and to assert themselves as part of the world-wide family of nations through their literature. Each text is analyzed, using the most appropriate literary theories available in the twentieth century and still popular today. Close attention is given to the use of language, structure, theme and vision of the world particular to each author. The course allows the student to better appreciate the making of a literary text and to gain a global perspective on certain themes and issues.
