Description:
A course on late nineteenth-century British popular fiction, including such emerging genres of the period as detection fiction, horror, colonial adventure fiction, and sensation fiction. We'll encounter such notable literary scoundrels as Professor Moriarty, Mr. Hyde, Dr. Moreau, and a vampire or two. We’ll also explore the development of the Victorian ghost story tradition by such masters as Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Sheridan LeFanu.
