Title: INTERMEDIATE POETRY WORKSHOP

Section: 01

Semester: Spring - 2016

Credits: 3

Description:
How can we create poems that don’t just describe an experience but also enact it? What personal obsessions drive us to be artists? Which poets do we want to imitate—no, which poets do we want to surpass? These are a few questions, among many, that will fuel this workshop. In this course, we will work to expand the writer’s toolbox you began constructing in Introduction to Poetry—a box with tools of music and diction, meaning and lineation. We will also read each other’s work closely, workshopping student poems several times during the semester. Lastly, we will explore a variety of mostly contemporary poets, discussing what they can teach us about lyricism, narrative, experimentation, and form.
