Name: ENGL - 234

Title: AMERICAN DRAMA

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2016

Credits: 3

Description:
American Drama begins as soon as "America" does and, like all drama, reflects the concerns and anxieties of the population for whom it is written: settlers, immigrants, laborers, and others. While taking up the "usual suspects" (O'Neill, Williams, Miller, Albee), we will also engage with plays from the settler/Revolutionary period, from Depression-era (Odets, the Federal Theater Project) to Sixties and Seventies protests, to Kushner and August Wilson, and more. Drama is the liveliest of the lively arts and always tells our own multiply diverse stories. Course requirements: two short papers, a midterm and a final exam.
