Description:
This course focuses on trends in American poetry by paying close attention to the works of individual poets as well as schools and movements they might represent, beginning with Poe and concluding with Hughes. Close readings, class discussions, group work will be supplemented with critical/theoretical essays. Students will keep an online journal in response to the poems, engage in large- and small-group discussions, post regularly on the class Canvas page, and will produce a formal research paper.
