This course will explore writing practices, research, and theory that will help to prepare you to teach writing in the secondary English classroom. During the semester, we will experience strategies for developing writing lessons, units, projects, and assignments; methods for commenting on and assessing writing; ways of establishing a writing culture, rituals, and practices in your classroom; a sense of what others have said and are saying about writing; and an awareness of some of the historical, current, and potential future issues surrounding the teaching of writing in the secondary English classroom. Please note that this is an online course.
