Description:
This semester, World Film before 1945 will focus on European cinema between 1910 and 1945. We will examine many of the canonical films of the period in trying to understand the stylistic history of one of the richest eras of cinematic art. Our focus will be on how these films expanded the language of cinema with particular attention shown to works of Soviet, French and German filmmakers. Films to be screened include Man with the Movie Camera, Metropolis, The Passion of Joan of Arc, A Nous la Liberte, Rules of the Game.
