Title: WORLD FILM AFTER 1945

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2017

Credits: 3

Description:
In this course we will consider how films made after 1945 addressed the social upheavals associated with postwar reconstruction, counter-cultural protest in the West, political dissidence in the East, and anti-colonial liberation struggles. We will look at masterworks of global cinema by
directors such as Roberto Rosselini, Alain Resnais, Milos Forman and Ousmane Sembene, tracing the influence of realism, modernism and nationalism on film aesthetics. Assignments will include a midterm, two short papers and a research paper.
