Title: MAJOR MOVEMENTS IN FILM
Section: 01
Semester: Fall - 2017
Credits: 3
Description:
This semester, Major Movements in Film will focus on the politics of the New Hollywood Cinema, the movement that emerged after the end of the studio era and ran from 1967-1976. This renaissance in American film treated the political tumult of the period—the war in Vietnam, the counterculture, urban decline, movements for civil rights— indirectly through genre revision but also directly with films shot on location in America’s roiling cities. Films likely to be studied include Medium Cool, Midnight Cowboy, The Landlord, Catch-22, and Shaft, among many others.
