Description:
This course will extend your knowledge of the various techniques of fiction writing (e.g. plot, character, point of view, structure, and setting) and will give you practice in the use of these tools in your own storytelling. In addition, you will continue to develop your creative process through critiques of workshop stories, close literary analysis, and revision. During the semester, you will write two original short stories, two craft assignments, one response to a published story, and one extensive revision. A take-home final exam that requires you to critique your classmates’ stories will demonstrate your knowledge of craft technique as well as your ability to read and evaluate fiction like a writer.
