Course details

Name: ENGL - 300

Title: PURSUITS OF ENGLISH

Section: 02

Semester: Fall - 2017

Credits: 4

Description:
This course offers a foundational understanding of literary theory and criticism, and its impact on how we understand literature. We will read a diversity of literary texts and explore their varied and expansive meanings through numerous critical lenses, including historical, feminist, post-colonial, and reader-response theories, among others. The reading and writing we do in this class will push you to draw connections between the text and the many forces that act on its reception. We will often work collaboratively to question and make sense of particularly difficult texts. In this class, we will build upon shared questions and our collective willingness to think beyond our own boundaries as readers and writers. [This course has staggered end times MW.]
