Title: AMERICAN POETRY TO 1940

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2017

Credits: 3

Description:
This course focuses on American poetry by paying close attention to the works of individual poets as well as schools and movements they might represent. We begin with Phillis Wheatley and explore the American voice through (roughly) 1940. Close readings, class discussions, and group work will be supplemented with critical/theoretical readings. Students will engage in Canvas responses to the poems, engage in large- and small-group discussions, and will produce a formal paper.
