Title: INTRO TO FICTION WRITING

Section: 03

Semester: Spring - 2018

Credits: 3

Description:
This course gives you a foundation in the various techniques of fiction writing (e.g., plot, characterization, description, setting, structure, and point of view), and it will give you the opportunity to use these tools in your own storytelling. You will also develop skills crucial to the creative process: critiquing fiction, reading analytically, and revising your work. The workshop sessions will give you practice in analyzing peer writing and in articulating aesthetic principles. During the course of the semester, you will write two original short stories, two craft assignments, and one extensive revision. You will also research publishing options, offer constructive critique of your peers’ work, and engage in close analysis of published stories with the goal of applying similar approaches and techniques to your own work.
