Description:
This course focuses on American fiction from 1918 to 1945. We will read works by such writers as Barnes, Cather, Dos Passos, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Hughes, Hurston, Larsen, Stein, Toomer, and Wharton. We will emphasize representations of ethnicity, gender, and race, and we will also place works in major historical contexts, including World War I, the Jazz Age and the “Lost Generation,” the Harlem Renaissance, and the Great Depression.
