Description:
In this course, we will examine the work of a diverse range of contemporary women writers from around the world. In reading these authors together, we will consider how women’s writing speaks to social issues around the environment, labor, colonialism and globalization, in particular. We will especially work with the lens of gender in our analytical approach to the texts. Readings may include works by Wangari Maathai (Kenya), Yoko Ogawa (Japan), Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Nigeria), Arundhati Roy (India), Suki Kim (South Korea/U.S.) and Edwidge Danticat (Haiti/U.S.), among others.
