Name: ENGL - 274

Title: CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE OF IMMIGRATION

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2018

Credits: 3

Description:
This is a hybrid online course. We will meet in person on Mondays and then conduct asynchronous (this means you do not have to be available at a specified time) online activities later in the week.

In this course, we will address narratives of immigration to the U.S. in recent fiction, non-fiction writing, and film. We will consider how these texts imagine the American dream and classic “immigrant narrative” as well as how they challenge these mainstream ideas by focusing on issues such as empire and globalization. Texts we consider may represent Latina/o, Caribbean, Arab, and Asian American communities.
