Description:
This course focuses on American novels, short stories and sequences published between World War I and II that have come to represent the American contribution to the “modernist” literary movement in the 20th century. These texts will be considered in the context of the massive social, political, cultural, and aesthetic upheavals associated with this era. The course may include works by such representative authors as Hemingway, Faulkner, Fitzgerald, Cather, O’Connor, Anderson, Nabakov, Toomer, and others.
