Description:
In this course, we "play around with syllables" (as W. H. Auden had it) as we gain intermediate practice in writing poetry in a workshop environment. We will explore a variety of traditions, forms, poetic language, and prosodic techniques, with an eye to honing our craft and discovering our own voices and styles—taking our operating principle from Yeats's lines: "A line will take us hours maybe; / Yet if it does not seem a moment’s thought, / Our stitching and unstitching has been naught."
