Description:
This course replaces Pursuits of English as the required course for the major. In this multi-media course, students will learn how literary theory helps us engage with questions about gender, sexuality, and race, including how it is represented in popular culture. Required texts are Jane Austen's _Sense and Sensibility_, _Nervous Conditions_ by Tsitsi Dangarembga, and a selection of Emily Dickinson's poetry.
Students will write a series of short essays on topics of their choosing and two longer papers.
