Title: BESTSELLERS AND POPULAR FICTION: INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE

Section: 01

Semester: Spring - 2019

Description:
This course examines the phenomenon of bestsellers and what these texts reveal about the cultures within which they were produced. Numerous lists now appear in various publications and define culture for the masses. Some of the assigned titles may include: The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, among others. Additionally, students will research which books were published during the week of their birth and explore those books to learn what they can about the contexts within which the books were produced. Every work in this course, from literary masterpieces to enduring self-help books has had an impact on American society.
