A study of representative works of British Literature from the beginnings to 1660. Potential readings include Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, selections from Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, Everyman, More’s Utopia, and representative poems by Wyatt, Surrey, Sidney, Spenser, Shakespeare, Donne, Jonson, Marvell, and Milton. Course Requirements: two short papers, midterm exam, and final exam.
