Title: INTERMEDIATE FICTION WORKSHOP
Section: 01
Semester: Fall - 2019
Credits: 3
Description:
This course will extend your knowledge of the various techniques of fiction writing (e.g. plot, point of view, character, dialogue, description, and research) and will give you the opportunity to use these tools in your own storytelling. You will continue to develop your creative skills through close literary analysis of published and peer work, through writing exercises, and through the process of revision. Since this is a workshop course, you will have frequent practice in analyzing peer writing and in articulating aesthetic principles. During the semester, you will write two original short stories, two craft assignments, and one extensive revision. A take-home final exam that requires you to critique two of your classmates’ revised stories will demonstrate your knowledge of fiction techniques as well as your ability to read and evaluate fiction like a writer.
