Course details
Name: ENWR - 311
Title: INTERMEDIATE FICTION WRITING WORKSHOP
Section: 02
Semester: Spring - 2020
Credits: 3
Description:
This course will extend your knowledge of the various techniques of fiction writing (e.g. plot, character, description, setting, point of view, and dialogue) and will give you the opportunity to use these tools in your own storytelling. You will continue to develop your creative skills through close literary analysis of published and peer work, through writing exercises, and through the process of revision. Since this is a workshop course, you will have frequent practice in analyzing peer writing and in articulating aesthetic principles. During the semester, you will write two original short stories, two craft assignments, a response paper, and a reflection on your workshop experience. Towards the end of the semester, you will write an extensive revision of your first short story. This revision assignment will demonstrate your ability to recognize weaknesses in your early drafts and to apply the fiction techniques needed to fix them.
