Description:
This course will introduce students to the elements and techniques that go into crafting a successful young adult narrative. We’ll study work from a wide range of YA authors, including Angi Thomas, John Green, Laura Ruby, Leigh Bardugo, and more. Students will write creatively both in and out of the classroom, producing a portfolio of work that will include three original YA short stories or chapters of a larger narrative. Students will share their work in a workshop setting, offering peer critiques with an eye toward revision. The class will also explore larger elements of crafting a fiction story, including narrative structure, character development, worldbuilding, and scene work.
