Course details
Name: ENGL - 110
Title: THE ANALYTIC ESSAY
Section: 01
Semester: Spring - 2020
Credits: 3
Description:
***this is hybrid course that will meet on Thursdays***
The main purpose of this course is to introduce students to the way English majors engage with texts. We don’t just read texts for plot summaries and broad themes —but read them to understand the cultural moment that produced them with careful attention to how they work on us as readers. In order to do this well, we must understand what contexts are important for a more nuanced understanding and appreciation of what we read, see, and watch. In this course, we will aim for depth over breadth, reading a few primary texts from various critical perspectives. The writing process for this class begins with online posting that form the basis for class discussion and student essays. Writing assignments (Canvas posts, essays, and blog posts) will build on one another and culminate in a final research-based project. This course satisfies the C2 Literature Gen Ed requirement.
