Description:
This course explores the writings of African American women. The works will be analyzed from sociohistorical and cultural perspectives, and significant attention will be given to the unique strategies and structures distinguishing an African American female aesthetic and critical tradition. Authors to be studied may include Fauset, Harper, Hopkins, Hurston, Jacobs, Larsen, Morrison, Shange, Walker, Wells, and Wheatley. Class presentations and seminar research paper will be required.
