Title: UTOPIA AND DYSTOPIA

Section: 01

Semester: Fall - 2020

Credits: 3

Description:
This course on Utopias and Dystopias explores the relationship between imaginative fiction and rebellion. Our focus will be on texts that construct imaginary worlds (or particularly imaginative versions of the real world) in order to challenge all-powerful authorities; but we will also look closely at the anxieties that these texts have about their connection to real social and political change. We’ll move across a wide range of periods, contexts, and genres of western literature, asking why—or if—rebellion needs imaginary worlds.
