Name: ENGL - 540
Title: THE MODERN BRITISH NOVEL
Section: 01
Semester: Fall - 2020
Credits: 3
Description:
This survey of the modern British novel covers a long stretch, from Joseph Conrad, D. H. Lawrence, and Virginia Woolf to Kazuo Ishiguro, Anita Brookner, and Fay Weldon, and a bunch in between. It moves from modernism through post-World War II and the 1980s. These novels reveal a lot about the evolution of feminism and the English class system: a different social order from what most of us are used to. The seminar includes some short responses, a presentation, and a research paper.
